Citizenship & Leadership (C&L) Instructor at Haitian Education & Leadership Program

Job Description:

The C&L Instructor reports to HELP’s C&L Program Manager, and works with other Academic Department staff on all aspects of the leadership program for 160 HELP scholarship students. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Organizing courses based on HELP’s C&L curricula, including class scheduling, course design and assessments, office hours, and individual tutoring
• Coordinating, participating in, and assessing community service-learning projects
• Reporting (monthly program reports, special event reports)
• Outreach to guest speakers and institutions that can provide assistance in advancing HELP’s mission
• Coordinating with other HELP staff to ensure consistency of leadership message and approach, as well as planning leadership-focused extracurricular events which may be in collaboration with the English program (such as volunteer projects, game nights, and other student-led initiatives)
• Producing materials in French, including translations from English

The C&L instructor will also assist other tasks, such as helping manage HELP’s compost/recycling system, interviewing students for HELP marketing materials, helping students with international study opportunities, etc.

Job Qualifications:

1) Bachelor’s degree in a related field
2) Teaching experience
3) Keen awareness of civic engagement, and experience in at least one of the following: (a) community or campus organizing; (b) teaching adolescents or adults; (c) civic or service projects
4) Ability to adapt to foreign and possibly difficult environments and situations
5) Strong writing skills
6) Sense of initiative, ability to work independently and as part of a team
7) Fluency in French and English. Knowledge of Creole is a plus.
8) Experience using the Moodle knowledge platform is an asset.
