Senior English Instructor at Haitian Education and Leadership Program
The Senior English Instructor (SEI) is responsible for coordinating major components of the English Language program. The SEI reports to the Academic Director (AD) and also works closely with the Citizenship & Leadership (C&L) staff and the IT staff. Responsibilities include: facilitating courses, managing program resources, overseeing the delegation of the English program’s administrative tasks and communications, and collaborating with the AD and the other English instructors to improve the program structure through tasks such as curriculum development. The SEI will also be called upon to represent the English Language program to visitors, donors, etc. Proficiency in educational technologies is an asset.
Specific tasks include:
• Shared administrative duties including: reporting, managing the English program budget, updating database (with information pertinent to English program), instructor training, overseeing English intern activities, recruiting and hiring program staff, resource management (approximately 10 hours/week)
• Teaching 8-10 classes (weekly) including: planning and preparation, office hours/tutoring, evaluations and attendance (approximately 15 class hours/week and 10 planning/evaluation hours/week)
• Co-curricular responsibilities: collaborating with staff and students for Saturday activities, overseeing the tutoring program (approximately 5 hours/ week)
• Extra-curricular responsibilities: organizing study abroad requirements, English translation of staff reports (approximately 2 hours / week)

1. Reports are complete and submitted on time.
2. The English budget is well organized throughout the year and balanced.
3. Employee has served as a resource for students and staff interested in improving English proficiency
4. Employee contributes to publicity and promotion of English program
5. English Program initiatives are organized according to the annual calendar.
6. Student English proficiency is assessed and reported upon at least twice a year.
7. Employee demonstrates a positive and collaborative attitude and represents the institution well inside and outside of HELP.

Minimum Qualifications :
• Bachelor’s degree (in a related field)
• Experience in program management, campus organizing, service education, and/or civic engagement is an asset. (Experience in Haiti is strongly preferred.)
• Excellent communication skills, flexibility, ability to work under high-pressure situations, ability to multi-task
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ease with autonomy and limited structure
• Ability to use word processing and spreadsheet programs (Excel, Word)
• Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to read, write, and speak English and Creole. French is an asset.
