Job Description:
JOB SUMMARY
The Protection Project Officer will coordinate and execute all the activities of protection in the field. This person will work closely with all levels of the camps and community to enhance participation and community involvement in facilitating families’ returns to their neighbourhoods of origin. In addition, the Protection Project Officer may work closely with OCBs, community leaders and other stakeholders to deliver appropriate responses to protection needs. The Project Officer will provide support to all CRS technical staff (WASH, shelter, CRRP, livelihoods) to support the implementation of their activities in the target communities.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Responsible for implementing field activities;
2. Working directly with the most vulnerable.
3. Provide training and activities for people living with the camps
4. Proactively pursue and promote the protection agenda within the communities , and advocate on behalf of the camp and community, among local authorities, other NGOs and other key stakeholder
5. Identifying of vulnerable families and bringing situation to supervisor’s attention;
6. Submit monthly reports prepared on field activities;
7. Regularly visits beneficiaries, provides feedback, reports problems, and proposes possible solutions;
8. Conduct mapping of services available for addressing protection needs, and ensure the establishment, strengthening and management of internal referral systems, as appropriate, within communities
9. Oversee and support community outreach programmes through focus group discussions, interviews, community workshops and other participatory methodologies as appropriate to identify protection concerns and develop appropriate community-led responses
10. Conduct ongoing monitoring, analysis and reporting of evolving protection concerns and trends as they affect the communities
11. Perform other duties as required.
Job Qualifications:
Qualification in social work, counselling, teaching, child care or related area strongly preferred
2. 5 years relevant professional experience in this area
3. Past experience in crisis or humanitarian emergency situations desirable
4. Good management skills, and experience in managing and supporting others in the achievement of established goals and priorities
5. Thorough understanding of protection concerns and considerations as they affect displaced communities during humanitarian crises
6. Experience of working closely with both small and large groups, and strong skills in the use of participatory and inclusive methodologies for engaging with communities
7. Strong understanding of sensitivities and differing needs related to gender, age and diversity
8. Full understanding of the different elements, factors and dynamics that can both enhance and minimise vulnerability
9. Strong organisational skills and ability to manage busy workload, to multi-task, to handle pressure well and to improvise
10. Flexibility and adaptability to changing situation and context
11. Ability to handle sensitive situations and information appropriately, and a proven ability to negotiate and dialogue on sensitive issues
12. Strong interpersonal, communication and training skills
13. Ability to self-motivate and to show initiative
14. Strong problem solving skills and the ability to find creative solutions
15. Experience in advocacy of government authorities and/or other target groups for the achievement of specified goals
